An unusual shot with a C16 and J83 passing through Princes Street Gardens from Haymarket depot into Waverley station. Although the photograph has been taken in 1948/49, the J83 has not yet been renumbered and is still wearing the fully lined out apple greeen livery provided by the LNER. We can also see that the BRITISH RAILWAYS lettering on the tank side of the C16 is smaller in size than the numbers on the bunker - there is no such thing as a standard livery and it is worth remembering that every locomotive in the country was not miraculously repainted overnight after nationalisation on 1st January 1948.
